Lingering October

Lingering October
The leaves glow warm yellow
Orange, red and purple.
The brisk morning air
and damp moldy smell of  fallen leaves
disappearing into the earth is sweet
because it mixes with leather and horsehide.
We live in a balanced universe
A perfect world
Because there is baseball in October.
We have a whole year to think about this world
This universe,
To solve the great mysteries
But in October
As autumn firmly plants itself in the backyard
There is still summer
In perfect balance
There is baseball in October.
